Memorial Day is a prime example of why I am pleased to be your mayor. On the parade route I took notice of a little girl practicing how to place her hand on her heart and further along the route I saw an elderly man in a wheel chair struggle to stand up and he saluted the colors.
I hesitate to mention all the groups of volunteers that it takes to make the Memorial Day Remembrance happen. Daniel Kemp, President of the American Legion Post 471 requested veterans and active military to put on their uniforms and march in the parade.
It is now up to the younger generation to come forward and not let our history die. We may be a small town but our history is massive. It’s imperative and our responsibility to pass down this history to future generations. Boyertown’s own, Four-Star General Carl A Spaatz is recorded in history books. Please, if you can contribute a very little amount of time, the CAP, the American Legion Post 471 and the Carl A Spaatz Memorial Assn, can use your help. These organizations meet only two or three times a year.
Please call me and I will forward your information to the appropriate group.
Marianne V. Deery
Mayor of Boyertown
