Oley Topton Patriots undefeated in league play

The Oley-Topton American Legion baseball team is off to a great start. The Patriots are tied for first place in the Schuylkill Berks League with Muhlenberg, both with records of 6-0.

On June 15 the Patriots began the week with an 11-6 victory over Wyomissing. Kevin Sell, Tyler Achenbach, Nick Distasio and Zach Eddinger all combined to pitch a three-hitters. Sell was the starting pitcher, allowing two runs in three innings.

Patriots pitching combined nie walks and only gave up three hits which resulted in

a 5-1 lead for Wyomissing going into the fifth inning.

After Luke Erb hit a two-run home run,. Austin Murr singled in the go ahead run to make 6-5. Tim Shoresdoubled in Nick Distasio and Zach Tomasko to make it 10-5. Nick Distasio gotthe win for Oley/Topton.

On June 16 the Patriots traveled to Minersville. Thanks to a three-run sixth and a good pitching performance by Luke Erb, the Patriots defeated Minersville, 5-1.

Erb pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and five walks. He struckout 13 batters.

Zach Tomasko led the Oley Topton offense with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Nick Distasio also had two hits and scored a run, while Kevin Sell had a hit, two RBIs and one run scored.

On June 17, the Patriots were at home to take on Fleetwood. Zach Eddinger pitched six innings of shutout ball for Oley Topton and led the Patriots to a 5-0 win. Eddinger allowed six hits and six walks in the game, but struckout 10 batters. Distasio pitched the final inning.

Erb had two of the team’s five hits in the game, drove in three runs and scored one. Eddinger, Tomasko and Zach Ernst each had one hit.

Later that night, the Patriots traveled to Kutztown and came home with a 2-1 victory. Oley Topton broke a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the fifth, then held off the Cougars with strong pitching from Tomasko and Garret Pelko.

Tomasko pitched 5 1/3 innnings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks. Peko pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.

Tim Shores led the Patriot offense with two hits (a single and a double), while Eddinger and Tomasko had the other two hits.
