The Boyertown American Legion Bears began the Berks County League playoff tournament last night with a home game against Daniel Boone. Dan Woodley was masterful on the mound as he pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Bears to the victory. He struckout 12 Daniel Boone batters.

The Bears were not exactly ripping the stuffing out of the Daniel Boone pitcher Ken Bock. Boyertown managed just six hits in the game, scoring single runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings. Ronnie Mauger had two of Boyertown’s six hits, scoring a run and driving in one run. Daulton Weeks doubled and scored the first run of the game.

Boyertown will advance to the winner’s bracket today when they will travel to Exeter to take on the Blue Jays at 5 p.m. Exeter defeated Twin Valley, 10-0, in their opening round match-up last night.

If the Bears win at Exeter today, they will advance to the winner’s bracket finals where they will take on the winner of the Shillington vs. Norchester game on Saturday, July 14. The tournament will take a day off on Friday, then all the games from Saturday on to the end of the tournament will take place at George Rulon Field in Shillington.
