Mayor Marianne Deery and Borough Council President Frank Deery arrived at the inner parking lot on a horse drawn carriage at noon on Saturday, Sept. 15, to tap the first keg of beer, officially setting off Boyertown’s Octoberfest celebration. The Boyertown Alumni Band welcomed the Mayor, providing entertainment for attendees for the first hour. To follow, the Reading Leiderkrantz singers came back for a second year. The Alpenrose Schuplattler Dancers concluded the evening with their German dancing.

Wines from local wineries such as Manatawny and Blair, as well as locally brewed beers by the Lancaster Brewing Company, were available at the event.

Boyertown celebrated Oktoberfest in late Sept. to stay true to the tradition of the Oktoberfest held in Munich, which begins in late Sept. and lasts for more than two weeks.

Hundreds came out to celebrate Boyertown’s 5th annual Oktoberfest, enjoying the local crafts and traditional foods.
