Boyertown to celebrate American Craft Week

Throughout Oct. 5 to Oct. 14, Dancing Tree Creations Artisans Gallery and Studio, Studio B Art Gallery and Teaching Studio and Taylor Backes Glass Studio and Gallery in Boyertown are celebrating American Craft Week by offering a series of workshops, activities, and demonstrations throughout the week and an exhibit featuring the fine art of craft.

Fine crafts are the feature of Studio B’s monthly exhibit, which opened Friday, Sept. 21. at Studio B. “CRAFTED,” features the fine art of craft. Nick Mohler of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, the juror for the exhibit, will present awards at the exhibit’s opening. The show continues through American Craft Week until Saturday, Oct. 13.

Scheduled workshops during the exhibit “Crafted” and American Craft Week at Studio B include the following:

Oct. 6, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Drawing Workshop with Jean Esther Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Oil Painting Workshop with Dan Gorman Saturday, October 13, 2012, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Collage Workshop with Rebecca Rohrbach

In addition, Studio B runs Open Studio most Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.-1 1:30 a.m. allowing artists to work together on individual projects and share ideas, techniques, and experiences.

Scheduled workshops during American Craft Week at Taylor Backes Glass Studio and Gallery, in addition to daily glass blowing demonstrations, include the following:

Saturday, Oct. 6, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Make your own glass pendant with Etta Boettger. Etta will work with you on the assembling of glass parts which will be oven fused into your very own pendant to be worn on a necklace or hung as decoration. Call in advance to schedule a time slot (approx. 45 min.) ($)

Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14, 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.: Make your own pumpkin with Dan Alters. Experience the making of a blown glass pumpkin with an experienced glass blower. All materials are supplied for this Harvest Season treat. Reservations are required. ($80) Pumpkins will require two days to cool.

Scheduled events during American Craft Week at Dancing Tree Creations Artisans Gallery and Studio, include the following:

Friday, Oct. 5, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: light refreshments during a reception for visitors to meet and mingle with local artists and welcome Sabrina Kennedy, the new Budding Artist that will be showing and selling her work at the gallery through the end of the year.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.: Sharon Finnegan will demonstrate how she creates her Finnegans Wake Tables.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Cooking in Clay with Linda Rohrbach-Austerberry. Enjoy a cooking demonstration, good food, drink, and fellowship with Linda showing the functionality of her finely crafted, unique cooking pottery pieces. Pre-registration is necessary; space limitations apply. ($).

Sunday, Oct. 7, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.: Book Sculpting Demo with Jodi Harvey-Brown.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.: Cooking in Clay with Linda Rohrbach-Austerberry. Enjoy a cooking demonstration, good food, drink, and fellowship with Linda showing the functionality of her finely crafted, unique cooking pottery pieces. Pre-registration is necessary; space limitations apply. ($).

Saturday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m.to 5 p.m.: Demonstration and invitation to learn Scherenschnitte (paper cutting techniques) with Brenda Meitzler and an HDR Photography demo with Patrick O’Donnell.

Sunday, Oct. 14, 1 p.m.to 5 p.m.: Book Sculpting Demo with Jodi Harvey-Brown, Basket Weaving Demonstration with Diane Kennedy and Pottery Throwing Demonstration with Bob Deane.

Monday, Oct. 15, marks the two-year anniversary of Dancing Tree Creations Artisans Gallery and Studio which carries only handcrafted items from more than 135 local and national Artisans.

The anniversary celebration will run throughout the weekend and include light refreshments, beverages, and an Anniversary Savings certificate for registered recipients of the gallery/studio’s e-newsletters.
