It’s defense that has powered the highly successful Boyertown High girls’ lacrosse program. Rachel Perry, daughter of Larry and Jeannine Perry of Gilbertsville, has been a starter on that defense over the past three seasons.

After she completes her senior season this spring, Perry will take her talents to Chestnut Hill College as she signed her letter-of-intent to play lacrosse for the Griffins.

“It’s a small school and it’s close to home,” said Perry about why she chose Chestnut Hill. “Also there is a new coach there (Chelsea Rosiek) and she’s very good. She’s young and the team is very young and she’s going to really help the program improve.”

The Griffins are coming off a 3-13 season as they try to get the women’s lacrosse program off the ground. Perry will have a good chance to see a lot of playing time as a freshman because of how young the team will be next year.

“We’re very excited to have such a strong defensive force join the Lady Griffs for our 2013-2014 season,” said Chestnut Hill College assistant lacrosse coach Lindsey Colferai. “Rachel Perry will be an impact player right away, and her athleticism will provide the defensive presence we need to win the CACC in upcoming years.”

In her junior season at Boyertown, Perry (an honor student) was named to the PAC-10 second team, and was just named to the Philly Girls’ Showcase 2013-2014 All-Star Team. She has also played on the Dynamite, a regional club lacrosse squad.

In addition to lacrosse, Perry was also a three-year varsity field hockey player at Boyertown.

“She has a moter that doesn’t quit,” said Boyertown head girls’ lacrosse coach Pam Wernersbach. “She just loves to play lacrosse. She’s a leader by her actions and will never quit. She is a very consistent player and is easy to get along with.”

For Rachel, the choice came down to two schools - Chestnut Hill or Millersville. It was eventually whittled down to Chestnut Hill, partly for academic reasons. She will major in biology and she felt Chestnut Hill had a better biology department.

Chestnut Hill is a Division 2 school in lacrosse and Perry felt that she would get more playing time at a Division 2 school, which is what she wants more than anything. She just wants to play lacrosse at the colliegiate level. After one more season on the Boyertown team, Perry will get her chance next year for the Griffins.
