The Oley Valley High School girls’ basketball team got the season underway on the right foot by winning the Oley Valley Tip-Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8.
The Lady Lynx played host to Schuylkill Valley in the opening round. Oley outscored the Panthers 10-3 in the first quarter, and 18-3 in the second and went on to defeat the Panthers, 38-16.
Brandi Vallely led the way for the Oley Valley offense with 13 points in the game. Courtney Dunn scored 12 points and Amanda Rizzuti had nine.
The victory sent the Lady Lynx to the championship game on Saturday where they would take on Pottsgrove. Thanks to a 21-point first quarter, Oley Valley won the game and the tournament title, 64-55.
Oley jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one quarter. It turned out to be a lead Pottsgrove could not overcome.
Brandi Vallely led the way for Oley with 23 points in the championship game and 36 in the tournament. She was named the tournament’s MVP and joined teammate Courtney Dunn in the All-Tournament team.
